What is a Lladro Figurine?

Lladro figurines are hand crafted and a collector’s dream, available in beautifully synchronized colors and settings. Lladro figurines are sculpted figures and scenes in porcelain.   The creations incorporate every detail of the sculpture creating a story for every theme that is most pleasing to the eye.

The Lladro figurine may be a sculpture of children, of a group of beautiful women, of animals, or maybe even of a window, (“Window in Springtime”).  Every piece is a study in perfection in and of itself and is also beautiful to behold.

Background Information

The Lladro brothers first started creating masterpieces in porcelain, in 1953,  and the art world sat up and took notice.  The brothers started off by making jugs and vases in the beginning.  It was only in 1956 that they ventured on to creating sculpted porcelain figurines that are intricately and aesthetically designed and hand painted.

Lladro Naos have been made from 1968.  These figurines are almost identical to the original figurines, except that they are less intricate and are generally created by students.

Retired Lladros are those figurines of which a limited edition was manufactured and therefore fewer are in existence.  These exclusive figurines are very much sought after and always fetch a much higher price than do the others.

Tips for buying Lladro Figurines online

  • Visit the official Lladro website to choose the theme of the Lladro you want to buy. The online Lladro catalogue is very user friendly and guides you to the figurine you have in mind.  You can order directly from there or you can be directed to a shop closer home that sells authentic Lladro products.

    1. Number: This is the number etched on the bottom of the Lladro Figurine.  If this has become blurred with age, maybe for a Retired Lladro, you can see the same number on the Lladro Box if you have it.  The numbers can be 1, 3, 7 or 8. Look for this carefully and see whether it corresponds with the number given along with the title of the piece.
    2. Title: The Title is printed on the box.  In case the Lladro you want to buy does not have a box; you can search for the identical piece in any search engine and find out the title.  You can search with the words that describe the piece you want like “playing dog”, or “Cinderella, or “Nativity Scene” and so on...
    3. English and Spanish Titles If a person buys the Lladro in Spain.  It is possible that it may have only a Spanish title and at times may add an English title which is not a literal translation.  Watch for the literal translation if you want to procure a specific  figurine.
